B12

I am about 5 years out. I have been taking B12 Subilingual 2500 mcg daily. My sister in law said her paperwork shows she should take 2500 once a week, not once a day. Also, the bottle says to take one a day.
Anyone else have any ideas on the debate. Our Dr. has moved to Az and we cant get an answer from Rush in Chicago where we had the surgery.

my main comment is that whatever you do not need, your body eliminates-no problem...

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I agree with Margo, it's what I've been told, too. I take 1,000 in pill form. I'm also 5 years out. I've not been told I'm deficient, but sometimes feel I'm a little spacier than usual, plus I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy in my feet (I think it's more from the compressed discs in my spine, but it could be from B12 deficiency).

I noticed you were from Rochelle; I went to college at NIU in DeKalb, so I know the territory.

My B12 stats are in the toilet. I am now doing weekly injections. I need to get mine up to just over 1000. I am sliding on brain damage and neuopathy problems at 394.

B's are water soluble, meaning what your body doesn't use you pee out...

at 5 years out you should be basing how much you take on your lab results. when were your last labs and what was your B12 then?

I shoot for 1,000 for mine. People seem to have problems at 400 or so even if the range claims that is "normal"

I was taking the 2500 once a day from Wal Mart. those are the (this will be spelled wrong) cyanocoalbumin form of b12

Apparently our bodies have to turn the cyano into methyl so if you purchase b12 that is already "methyl" it absorbs better

My b12 ranges were normal but dropping on 2500 per day from Walmart. they dropped from 1300ish to 1065 or so.

I bought some of the methyl from vitalady and vitacost.com and have been taking that for some time now.

we are all so different you can't go by what others take at this point ok?

Hi Judi,
What part of Minnesota are you from? There are a few of us from Minnesota on the board today. Kind of funny.

Hi Dorothy, I'm up in Detroit Lakes, far away from most of the Minnesotans posting around here!

Dr. S?

You want your B12 level to remain over 1000. I know what the antiquated lab levels show, but newer studies suggest 800 is as low as you want. Plenty of documented cases of brain damage at 400.

Get copies of your labs.

I personally would not EVER take it weekly. Daily, twice/day, whatever it takes to hold you.

You can get NO B12 from food AT ALL. This is ALL you get.
